Poor Ariadne
Dumped on that island raving at false gods
She betrayed her family
To help that thankless man defeat his monstrous odds
Sick as an old sea dog
In the quickening sand of her abject misery
Their ship could not turn back
(So he later claimed!) on that cursed storming sea
Devoted love and golden thread
Ensured escape from the maze of his head
Destroyed the demon, broke him free
Then she was surplus to requirement
Sad are the men of the world
Living their sly masquerade
Such is the way of their world
Ever it turns on cliche
He used the selfless gift
Of her love to save his petty hero's life
Then packed his old sea chest
Skimmed the foaming waves to his ever forgiving wife
Leaving poor Ariadne
Dumped on that island raving at false gods
She betrayed her family
To help that thankless man defeat his monstrous odds
